Baltic Brand Conference Riga: Brands across borders
"Branding" and “brand success" dominated the renowned Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE) on February16 2011. The monumental SSE-building right in the center of Latvia’s capital hosted the first "Baltic Brand Conference". Headline of the meeting: "From Local Jewels to Global Brands ". Quite over hundred guests and experts participated. In addition to SSE "Baltic Brand Conference" was supported by the Baltic Sea Forum and the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce too.

Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn - every three capital of the Baltic states have their unique character. In Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia there is a huge number of cultural monuments in a very small area. This fairy-tale land in the northern edge of Europe will be visited by an eight-day trip in the summer to come. It is organized by Europa Union, Hamburg, the Baltic Sea Forum and Nadolny-Reisen. BSF supports Lower Saxony MPs on maritime information tour
to the Baltic Sea Region
The parliament of the largest “land” in northern Germany sent its maritime expert MPs in March 2011 for a five days tour to companies and institutions around the Baltic Sea. Guided by Johann Heinrich Ahlers, chairman of Lower Saxony’s State Parliament’s Committee on ports and shipping, members of all political groups started their journey on March 20 that led them to Finland, Russia, Denmark and Sweden. Their objectives: deepen existing contacts, get new contacts, assess current development and infrastructure projects and meet the logistical challenges of ports and their customers in the Baltic region.

At the present time the world has other 'hot spots' in mind apart from the Baltic Sea region, and therefore it is understandable that this area is not receiving very much public attention. Nevertheless, politics moves along over the longer term, and thus violent political changes or coups in Northern Africa and even earthquakes and nuclear disasters in Asia, however important and terrible these may be, ought not to lead to forgetting or neglecting the region in which one lives.

Adapting to Climate Change – Case Studies from the Baltic Sea Region
Actions towards establishing sustainable adaptation measures to climate change are currently taking place at various levels. An increasing number of projects are launched to identify the regional and local impact of climate change and to find suitable adaptation options for the relevant decision-makers from the policy and the economy sector. Together, the Hamburg Senate Chancellery and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht are hosting a conference on regional and local adaption to climatechange in the Baltic Sea Region on the 31 May 2011 in Hamburg.
