Meeting of the 27 EU fishery ministers

At the end of October the 27 EU fishery ministers met in Luxembourg to discuss about the new catching methods in the Baltic Sea. They shall apply to the next five years. Alarming numbers were noticed especially in the herring asset but also sprat and salmon are menaced. In contrast during the last years highly protected cod recovered again. But the data are contestable – probably because of tactical reasons to be “conserved” from the essential abatement of the catching abundance. Especially the Baltic States Finland and Poland resist against the planned decrease.

Finally the European Agricultural ministers agreed on the 27 October 2010 after long arguing on the fishery elevation for the future: the herring catches will be reduced

on 30 %, sprat 24 % and salmon only 15 %.
