Issue 03/2008

In its latest issue, the baltic sea magazine reports on the effects of climate change on the Baltic Sea. Leading researchers come to the disturbing conclusion that the same climate normal in Marseille today could prevail in Kiel by the end of this century. In an exclusive interview, German Foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier explains how this threat needs to be countered.

We also feature the country of Sweden, which has plenty more to offer apart from ABBA, Volvo and Ikea. Furthermore, we take a look at the Aker Shipyard in Turku, where the world’s biggest cruise ship is being built. And we report from Riga which, for very good reason, is hoping for a new cultural link with the Wagner Festival venue of Bayreuth.

And last but not least, we pay tribute to the founder of the Baltic Sea Forum, which is also our co-publisher: Martti Ahtisaari has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The Forum has also received official advisor status on Baltic Sea matters from the UN in the capacity of an NGO (non-government organisation).
