Are heatwaves destroying our shores?
Climate researchers predict a dramatic rise in temperature.
Our earth is running a temperature. The global warming alarm signals are becoming increasingly drastic. Whilst scientists at the University of Washington estimate that the North Pole will have completely melted by the year 2040, Danish scientists estimate the date to be as soon as 2023. The result will be catastrophic for the animal and plant world. The melting of the ice promotes the heating process as water is better able to absorb sun rays than ice. Researchers are also estimating that the mean air temperature over the Baltic Sea will also rise by up to five degrees by the year 2100. The manager of the Institute for Coastal Research Geesthacht, meteorology professor Hans von Storch, believes that climatic conditions similar to the Cote d´Azur will prevail in northern Europe. The consequences for the underwater life and life on the coast would be dramatic. First indications have already been noticed in the level of fish stocks.
