Code name “Genesis”
In Turku the world’s largest passenger ship is being built
The Earth’s creation, called “Genesis” in the Book of Moses, the beginning of all existence. Giving a new ship the code name “Genesis” bears witness to a large amount of self-confidence. And yet what is being built at the Aker Yard shipyard in Turku is something completely new – on water. It is not only the prototype for an entire series of ships, but quite simply the world’s largest passenger ship. 40 metres longer than the Eiffel Tower, 15 metres bigger than the previous record holder, the “Queen Mary 2”, and also one and a half times larger than the hitherto biggest cruise ship, “Freedom of the Seas”, that was completed here just a few months ago.
